ANDREW BENNETT 11 November - 5 December 2009 This show titled 'Small Quirks' is my first small works show in nearly twenty years, that i've been exhibiting. As an artist it's important to challenge yourself. This show has certainly been a challenge. It requires a different scale of thinking to carry these works off. The idea was to set a certain time scale, in this case three months, and just get some ideas down as they occurred. The only plan was to limit the vertical height to 30 centimetres. Hence it has been a journey of discovery. Never being quite sure what the next image would be. This was both terrifying and liberating. It made my process more in the moment and less planned. It's an eclectic set of themes that reflect my creative obsessions. It's funny how many subconscious interests keep coming back as well as a few ones. All are from snippets of experiences from the last three months. There are beach references, construction references from my driving the F3 north of Sydney, as well as images from a day on the harbour just to name a few. Andrew Bennett |
